Guidelines for Properly Filling Out the Newly Designed Check

To ensure smooth and successful check transactions, it is important to follow the updated guidelines for writing checks under the newly designed format. Any errors or incorrect entries may lead to delays or rejection during clearing. Here’s a simple guide to help you fill out your check correctly.

1. Use the Correct Date Format
When writing the date, use numeric format only: MM-DD-YYYY. Be sure to separate the month, day, and year with dashes (-). Avoid using slashes, dots, or other symbols as they will render the check invalid for deposit or clearing.

2. Write the Amount Clearly in Numbers
In the amount box, write the figure using standard number formatting:

  • Use commas to separate thousands or millions.
  • Use a period (.) to separate pesos and centavos.
  • Do not use currency symbols like ₱ in this box.

3. Fill Out the Payee Line Properly
The payee line should contain only one of the following:

  • A person’s full name
  • A company or institution name
  • The word “Cash”

Combinations such as a name with “Cash” (e.g., Juan Dela Cruz and/or Cash) are not allowed and will invalidate the check.

4. Always Spell Out the Amount in Words
Writing the amount in words is required. For added security, you may enclose the written amount with symbols (like asterisks or lines), although this is optional. Ensure the words match the numeric value to avoid discrepancies.

5. Sign Within the Box (Overflow is Acceptable)
Checks must be signed by the account holder. If dual signatures are required, both signatories may use the same signature box. It’s acceptable if the signature slightly exceeds the boundaries of the box, as long as it remains clear and legible.

Important Reminder
Checks that do not comply with these updated guidelines will be rejected for deposit or clearing. Always double-check your entries before issuing a check to avoid inconvenience.
